Carpe diem

Life is like a highway,
I have often heard them say.
With roads going in and out,
Denoting each new day.

It is your choice to walk them,
It is your choice to not.
But the highway will keep going,
Only once does it stop….

When others walk into your life,
They see what you’ve made of it
Are there trees, ponds and valleys,
Or skyscrapers and contemporary kitsch.

It is your choice to fill it,
It is your choice to not.
But the highway, it keeps going,
Only once it ever stops.

And on a new day rising,
When you walk those inward roads,
And see some other traveller,
Struggling with his loads..

It is your choice to help him,
It is your choice to not.
But the highway, it keeps going,
And one day it will stop.

And they will remember you after,
Your highway is forlorn.
And talk amongst, or to themselves,
Of how you carried on…

It’s your choice to make it worthy,
It is your choice to not.
For life is but a highway,
And you never know when it stops…
